Callanish Stones, Isle of Lewis - Scotland
Canon 5D Mark III, Canon Fixed Focal Length EF 24 mm f/1.4L II USM Lens, Manfrotto Tripod, Cable Release, Finger LEDs
You have to suffer for your art, goes the saying. Well, there was plenty of suffering involved in getting this shot I can tell you! On this particular night the weather was pretty fierce. Strong winds, rain and hail. I had meticulously planned my trip up to the outer Hebrides and of course the one thing you can's predict here in Scotland is the weather! And so rather typically, the night I visited this magical location the weather was pretty insane. Wave after wave of hail stones battered us (I was with 2 fellow photographers) as we tried our best to repeatedly get our gear prepared for a light painting shoot. All of a sudden, there was a calmer spell, and I immediately set about creating several light paintings, this one being my favourite. I created the 'Orb' by spinning around a long metal pole to which I attached several 'finger LEDs' (small lights). Because I was wearing black clothing and moving around for the entirety of the exposure, I was able to remain invisible in the resulting image. Camera settings: ISO 200 - f/5 - 30sec - 24mm
