Gammarus locusta is a species of Amphipod found in the inter-tidal zones of the English Channel and Atlantic shores of Britian, as well as the coasts of West Europe and Ireland. This particular isopod was found on Castle Beach in Falmouth, Cornwall. It was around 4mm in length, and was taking shelter in some Red Hornweed algae in a rockpool. This image was taken through a microscope under darkfield reflective microscopy, magnified 40x and composed via focus-stacking, as part of a project investigating and exposing the diverse beauty of overlooked British isopod species.
