Pulborough Brooks RSPB Nature Reserve, West Sussex
Canon 5DIV, Sigma 105mm f2.8 EX DG
This photo was taken at a nearby nature reserve where I volunteer teaching macro photography workshops. I set out early one morning with the aim of photographing dragonflys emerging from a pond. After nearly giving up i spotted this damselfly. I got down low and set up my tripod to get a close up. In doing this I noticed the break in the woodlands was creating a bright white background. Noticing that either side of this was dense dark woodland, I took a step back to make the white backround smaller. After a lot of repositioning I managed to center the damselfly in what was now a circle of white light creating the spotlight effect I was hoping for. Camera Settings: f/2.8, 1/400, 105mm, ISO 400
