This Dune Wolf Spider (Xerlycosa miniata) was found on a beach on the island of St Martin's in the Isles of Scilly. While sitting on the beach and enjoying some lunch after a Kayak around the neighbouring islands, I noticed this spider scurrying along the sand. I realised that it was some sort of Dune Wolf Spider (a bucket list species for me to find and photograph), so I assembled my camera as quickly as I could. I then watched as it disappeared into a burrow, thinking that I had missed a perfect opportunity. After waiting for a while, hoping that it would come out again, I then saw her emerge from her burrow with a silk covered ball of precious eggs, making the wait all the more worthwhile.
