Queen, one of the resident lynx mothers in Penalajo, emerged from the back of our hides to come and drink at the waterhole with her two cubs trailing close behind. At first, the trio was too tightly grouped for a clear shot. Then when one cub wandered off, I seized the moment to capture its portrait. Suddenly, I noticed that both the mother and the remaining cub had lifted their heads in perfect sync. As Queen began to groom her young one, I quickly reframed as I knew this was a very special interaction. What made this so special was when the curious cub locked eyes with me, delivering a frame full of tenderness and connection.
