Image from 'Displaced', my project which delves into story telling through portraiture. I made prints from my portraits of the subject (Lin), upon which I laid, wove and stitched threads and yarns; a physical connection to Lin’s love of textiles. The narrative of the project is brought together with texture and pattern – visual representations of her displacement, her creative spirit, and her ongoing struggle toward self-acceptance. The series of images is a poignant exploration of Lin’s internal world: one of survival, resilience, and the slow painful unravelling to reclaim her identity after years of emotional turmoil. In this composition, lengths of red wool are stretched across the print to cover the eyes of the subject. The portrait and final image are made using natural light.
