This image is of tens of thousands of wading birds being forced in to flight from the last few remaining gravel bars and mudflats by a high incoming spring tide. The birds are predominantly red knots but also include oystercatchers, godwits, curlew and dunlin. I have photographed this spectacle over many years but only on this day did the birds fly parallel to me allowing me to get many of the birds in sharp focus within the field of view.
