Birdlife
Lake Kerkini, Greece
Canon EOS R5, Canon 24-105 F4 L IS USM
This image was taken from a boat on Lake Kerkini in Greece, using the Canon EOS R5 with the Canon 24-105 lens. I set the speed at 1/1600 as the boat was constantly rocking and the Dalmatian Pelican was bobbing about on the water. Setting the aperture to f/4 enabled me to soften the water at low level. On Auto ISO this gave me an ISO of 500, which was very acceptable. The image was taken late afternoon with some beautiful subtle colours in the sky and a slight wind created some gorgeous tufts on the Pelicans head. Although the boat was 'stationary' there was still erratic movement. To capture the bird at low level it was necessary to hang over the side of the boat with the camera in touching distance of the water, taking care not to 'dunk it', although this did happen a few times!!
