A high speed crash, captured during the Japanese Grand Prix 2023. This was just as the riders were putting in their fast laps to secure their positoins on the grid for the race. Always a tense time that requires them to push something beyond the limit regardless of track conditions. Thankfully former champion Fabio Quartararo was fortunate enough to walk away from this one with just bumps a bruises. You can even see his airbag deployment in the photo. This shot is a pure sports photography shot, with the rider crashing out of frame and actually sliding into view at speed its extremely difficult to pick up a subject and track them when you have no lead in time or reference point. (especially at 400mm focal length). The camera was set up for a fairly slow pan, which in this shot you can see with the movement in the stones. I think this photo showcases what every sports photography needs to have in their locker in terms of reaction times and panning skills.
