Description

Zenobia was a warrior. This bantam is a small but fierce Wyandotte in my flock. Chickens used to be worshipped when they first arrived on our island. Recent studies have shown that these birds possess far greater intelligence than previously believed. They can communicate with 24 sounds related to specific situations; they think before they act and can be deceitful and empathetic. These creatures are both beautiful and cruel: they are awe-inspiring, and as such, this photograph references the master paintings of the Dutch Golden Age through it's deliberate photographic settings throwing the background into darkness and exploring elements of the sublime.
