Prees Heath, Shropshire
Nikon D500, Nikon 105mm Macro lens, tripod
This is a Common Blue butterfly shot at a nature reserve in Shropshire. I held the camera very low down on the ground so that I captured spots of light coming through distant trees. This created the effects seen in the image - the halo around the butterfly and the 'echoes' of plants within the bokeh. This was shot fairly wide at f/4 in order to create this bokeh. The insect didn't stay still for long and I just managed to get enough shots to do a focus stack. I found the surrounding vegetation a little too red, which distracted from the insect, so I altered the colour in processing to make it bluer. f/4, 1/250s, ISO320, 105mm
