The idea for this image started with a large galvanised wash-tub, I loved the colour and texture of it and wanted to incorporate a human element into it. I decided that the human in the photo should be nude to contrast with the cold metal. I had a loose idea in the back of my mind that I wanted this to be an image about the burdens and struggles that mental health issues can bring into your life and how that might look if you could put those feelings into an image. I shot the image from above stood on some scaffolding as I wanted the tub to look as though it was engulfing her, I really liked the unusual angle as well. I lit the image from the side with a large soft box and a bare bulb bounced off a wall for a bit of fill in the shadows. The final image is dark and uncomfortable and shows a moment in time when someone is feeling overwhelmed and trapped as we all often do. I deliberately kept the colour palette very limited to the cold greys and pale flesh tones to draw attention to the shapes of the model and the circle of the galvanised tub.
