Fine Art
Intrepid Studios, Brighton
Sony A7III
Photographed in studio conditions, using a continuous LED lighting set up. Two artists bound together and applying a process at the same time to see how it translates under restraint and transforms from character to character. This portrait was improvised in the studio and takes on many potential meanings. Wesley (attached at the back) often uses this look of tights and makeup as the basis of many looks he builds upon - we wanted to see how that would look applied to another artist at the same time. What made the work more interesting was Mandy and Wesley were attached to each other within the same pair of tights before they applied make up - this made it an awkward task and added to the final look of the work. It's interesting as both artists are used to being uncomfortable in order to produce many of the looks they do, whether this is in restrictive masks for hours at a time or covering themselves in various substances for different looks. In this case they are in familiar yet completely new territory and one of them is the imposter being subjected to the process of the other.
