Lord Leycester Hospital, Warwick
Leica Q3
John Dawson: Taken in his kitchen, 12 years after he was shot by a sniper in Afghanistan, as he regained consciousness his Platoon Sargeant said to him, "It's ok, you had a bit of a fall", John was completely unaware that his Sargeant was holding his head together with his hands. It's been a long road to recovery for John, but he is positive & upbeat about the future & forgiving of the past even though his life will never be the same again. John now lives in at The Lord Leycester Hospital part historic visitor centre part home for former members of the armed forces. Using natural light & after a long time talking about his story & his time in the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards I captured this shot with my Leica Q3, John doesn't really feel like he has done anything remarkable by recovering, he sees it as "just one of those things" so I felt the shot of him at the kitchen table, in a non-remarkable setting, allowed John to just show how remarkable he is.
