At 6:30 am on May 16th, 2022, Ian was involved in a serious workplace accident. Falling roughly 12 to 14 feet from his machinery onto hard concrete, where he sustained severe injuries. Ian was quickly rushed to Leeds General Infirmary, where he was admitted directly to the resuscitation area and placed under intensive care. Ian's injuries were severe and extensive. He suffered a left-sided subdural hematoma, a large volume traumatic subarachnoid haemorrhage in the left parietal lobe, and multiple contusions in the frontal lobes. His condition was critical and required immediate and ongoing medical attention. Two weeks after his accident, Ian was discharged home, but his recovery was complicated. He soon developed post-traumatic amnesia and a build-up of fluid on his brain, known as hydrocephalus, which led to the loss of his sight. This deterioration required him to be readmitted to the hospital, where he underwent a crucial operation to insert a ventricular shunt to relieve the pressure on his brain. The aftermath of Ian's accident has left him dealing with significant health issues, including various types of seizures: absent seizures, tonic-clonic seizures, focal seizures, and complex focal seizures. Additionally, Ian lost his sense of taste and smell, these are changes that are permanent and will affect Ian for the rest of his life.
