Water Life
Porthcurno, Cornwall, UK.
Sony RX100 and Sony underwater housing.
As I stepped into the water, I could see an abundance of sea salps (Salpa fusiformis) all around me. They pulsated and swirled through the current, connecting with one another to form chains that looked like fairy lights. It felt like I was floating in space, looking at the Milky Way. The spiny starfish was positioned perfectly, as if it was sitting back to watch the underwater display. Salps are a rare species in Cornish waters, with only a handful of sightings. When the conditions are right the population can rapidly grow, causing blooms such as this one. It was a mesmerising experience to be able to snorkel through the magic and capture a special moment.
