Abu Dabbab in Egypt
Taken with Nikon D800, @ 1/250, f13, using 16-35mm Nikkor Wide Angle Lens, Hugyfot Housing, 2x 161 Ikelite strobes.
Once a common sight around Africa, Dugong populations have tragically plummeted in recent decades, largely due to seagrass habitat loss and human pressure. Fortunately the Lagoons of Abu Dabbab in Egypt still provide refuge for a few of these magical creatures of the sea. After hours of studying the behavior patterns of this large male I was able to position myself in such a way that I could capture an image showing its raw power and beauty as it vacuumed up seagrass amongst the billowing clouds of sediment.
