Langholm Cornet Christopher Tait, 2023, gallops up the Kirkwynd carrying the towns colours during the annual Common Riding. I live in the Borders and have covered the areas Common Ridings extensively. The Kirkwynd gallop is by far the best part of all them, a throng of people, sitting on walls, or stood behind just a thin rope, as a couple of hundred horses make their way through them at best speed. It's just an incredible atmosphere, with no health and safety nonsense, and I hope that comes across in the picture. Langholm is just a small town in rural Scotland, but they know how to have a party. - Langholm, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, UK. 28th July 2023. The town of Langholm celebrates its biggest day of the year, the Common Riding, which takes place on the last Friday of July. Langholm’s Common Land was determined in 1759 at the Court of Session in Edinburgh, and in 1816 the riding of the common was inaugurated. Credit: Chris Strickland
