Description

These 3mm tall slime moulds were found in February, on a soft, decaying Birch log in ancient woodland in South Buckinghamshire. This image illustrates why this species is called floriformis. As the fruiting body breaks open to release the orange spores,the black peridium splits to form petal shapes. I noticed a patch of pink crust fungus growing behind the slime mould and carefully composed the picture to incorporate the complementary pink background. 31 shots were focus bracketed and then stacked, using Zerene Stacker. One extension tube was used. The camera settings were 1/10 sec, f3.5, ISO200
