The day following a deadly crossing of the Mara River, this Hippopotamus seemed intent on driving away the feasting Hyenas. Following a brief standoff, it slowly retreated back into the water, allowing the scavengers to continue feeding. This image was taken from the opposite bank, and I used a teleconverter to focus in at the base of the cliff, cutting out the brightness of the grass plains above, to portray the darkness of the macabre scene.
