Phase One XF Camera body with IQ150 Digital Back and 55mm lens
I had been trying to master making soufflés at home and thought that it would be an interesting subject to shoot. I really wanted to have the "towering" effect so decided on a wide angle 55mm on the Phase One XF camera body with a No:1 extension tube to get the camera in really close. Myself and the stylist chose the simple black background and ramekin to accentuate the pink colour of the soufflé. After much testing and following Raymond Blancs' top tips, the stylist worked out how to get the best "rise" and with everything in place cooked the soufflé and transferred to the set immediately before it started to collapse and finished with a light dusting of icing sugar for a final touch. The soufflé started to collapse as soon as it was removed from the oven so the time between taking it out of the oven, dusting with icing sugar and shooting was less than 30secs!
