The Royal Mile, Edinburgh
Nikon D750, Tamron 15-30mm
When the RAF's Red Arrows were expected to perform a flypast over Edinburgh, choosing a vantage point in advance came with risks, as you only get once chance at it. I positioned myself down the Royal Mile and chose the spot and lens wisely. The flypast ended up being directly overhead and at a full 15mm the wide angle lens captured the adjacent 17th century buildings as well as the aircraft. Even the pilots seemed impressed with my effort, as lead pilot Red One later retweeted the image. However the drama was not over - seconds after the shot was taken, a bird strike forced one of the aircraft to make an emergency landing nearby.
