Here is something a little different, a montage of a blackbird in flight. A single burst of images taken in my Suffolk garden which is then put together into a single image...... I have over the past 2 years concentrated fully on studying , observing and photographing the wildlife in my Suffolk garden, immersing myself and becoming familiar with the individual animals and birds....... I love the balletic poses contained in this image, using the original background to keep the integrity within the image....... I believe sky or background replacements never look congruent, because it is impossible to match exactly the light conditions and quality at the time the image/images were taken.... I do though find montages a beautiful way, if done well and with integrety, to capture the beauty of movement that a single image cannot capture. (Because of the long and narrow shape of the crop needed to create this montage, and to keep within the maximum length specified in this competition, the resolution of this jpeg is quite small....but in full resolution the image has all the quality expected. :) ) Technique: I generally shoot with a fast shutter speed to capture the interesting moments i am looking for. Modern mirrorless cameras allow us to get away with much higher ISO settings than in the past, so even if a subject is fairly static in the moment, such as a perched bird, i treat it as if a potential action situation, expecting an interesting movement or fascinating behaviour to happen at any time and at great speed. I am generally shooting in manual mode with auto iso. I want to be in control of the artistic settings such as shutter speed and aperture.... I don't want to hand those creative settings over to the camera, which you do in some of the other shooting modes.
