Locals will get used to anything, but sometimes what "just happens round here" is, to strangers' eyes, a glimpse of pure magic. The town is known for its peacocks - less so for its kebab van. The meeting of the two was a happy accident I witnessed in passing. Neither bird nor man were concerned to wait, and I had no camera with me save my phone, but it was just the right time of evening to bathe the scene in a cinematic kind of blue, and I had just enough time to crouch and frame things a little. The worker chatted briefly to his fancy customer, tossed him a crumb of pitta, then both bird and man went off about their business. The beautiful and the mundane together elevate each other. The beautiful sings brighter by contrast; and the mundane in turn is sanctified as the ground, the condition, from which beauty arises: beautiful too, in its own way, as necessity.
