I camped within this marine reserve for several nights with the express purpose of chasing the best light. As the sun started to set, creating a dazzling display of dappled rays just beneath the surface, I settled at this coral head where a school of sardines had gathered. This place is famous for its population of California sea lions (Zalophus californianus), and my hope was that one would swim through the scene. I waited as the small window of light ticked away, and was ultimately rewarded with an appearance from this curious individual.
