Her Majesty The Queen named a brand new Great Western Railway Intercity Express Train 'Queen Elizabeth II' at London Paddington station to mark the 175th anniversary of the first British Monarch to travel by train. The Duke of Edinburgh was also in attendance. They both travelled from Slough to Paddington 175 years to the day when Queen Victoria made the same journey by train for the first time which in 1842 was driven by Daniel Gooch and assisted by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. On this particular day I was fortunate to be the sole photographer with permission to roam the platform during the public engagement at Paddington to capture the event for GWR. A historic day to remember.
