Description

The annual Tar Barrels event is without doubt the craziest organised event I have had the pleasure of witnessing. If it is not dangerous enough that grown men and women lift large barrels of flaming tar and run around the densely packed streets of Ottery St Mary, but children do it too. I was amazed how the parents of these brave little people goad them to be brave and complete the task at hand even if they are partially on fire. I wanted to capture this bizarre spectacle before it is banned. I took this photo with a Canon 5D Mark IV and my Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM II lens. I didn't want to take too much kit with me as I knew I would be in densely packed streets with craze people running towards me with burning barrels so I wanted to have a very minimal kit.
