Description

Oceanic Whitetip Sharks (Carcharhinus longimanus) are ocean going sharks spending the majority of their lives solitary cruising the worlds warm tropical seas. These magnificent sharks are distinguished by their long pectoral fins and is also where they get their name from, Longimanus translates from Latin as "long hands". Unfortunately these long fins have become very valuable in the shark fin trade which is why there has been a decline in this species of 80% in recent years. This was once one of the most abundant predators on the planet and now their numbers are dwindling. This image depicts a solitary oceanic in its element, cruising in the big blue, the negative space in the image also represents the sharks solitary life and dwindling numbers.
