Water life
About 10 miles south Penzance, Cornwall, England.
Canon 5D Mark III, Canon EF 11-24mm f/4 L lens, Nauticam housing and dome
Blues are particularly attractive among the sharks: the iridescence of their colouring is wonderful to witness. They are very calm sharks to swim amongst, moving relatively slowly and pretty much ignoring human presence after a short time. They are, however, capable of stunning acceleration with their powerful streamlined bodies. When you swim at the surface of slightly milky water, with a bright sun above you, your shadow below takes the form of lines radiating out from a point. It was taking advantage of this, together with careful timing, that resulted in me getting this shot. We’d motored about 10 miles south of Cornwall, England, and used a perforated bag of smelly old mashed-up fish particles and oils to tempt the shark close to our boat. Shot with a Canon 5D Mark III, Canon EF 11-24mm f/4 L lens, inside a Nauticam housing and dome. Camera settings were 1/250s, f/9, ISO1000.
