The Boathouse, Lingholm Estate, Portinscale, Cumbria
Sony A7Rii, 24 - 70mm Sony G 2.8, Lee 10 stop filter
I had the pleasure of staying in a newly renovated boathouse on Derwent Water earlier this year, and when I woke and looked from the balcony across the water towards Keswick, I could see a wonderful sun rise taking shape. I usually hike and work to capture a landscape - for this shot I sat in my pyjamas with my coffee in hand fresh out of bed. It was amazing. I noticed some morning mist rising as the sun's heat came into play, and on the other side of the lake this rising mist formed shapes coming from a copse of trees. I wanted this to form the centre piece of the shot but to be something you noticed, rather than something that jumped out at the viewer. I chose to frame two small islands in front of this and to work with a long exposure to generate a slightly stylised feel. Shot at 52mm, f8, 30 second exposure, ISO 100
