CHINA, Hong Kong: 06 October 2019 A river of pro-democracy demonstrators and their umbrellas walk through the streets of Hong Kong Island in protest of China's ever tightening grip on Hong Kong's freedoms. The leaderless movement coined the famous Bruce Lee phrase 'Be Water' - adopting a highly agile, mobile and fluid form of protesting causing difficulty for Hong Kong's police force to predict their movements. This picture was taken using a -10 f-stop ND filter - to allow a long exposure in daylight, with tripod and umbrella. I wanted to capture the demonstrations of Hong Kong in a way that really caught the eye. Everyone has seen the pictures of thousands of umbrellas, but I wanted to go further than that. The 'Be Water' tactics have been incredibly effective and had reached across the world - being copied by protesters both in Catalonia and Lebanon. And a way to present their innovative tactics was to try an innovative day-time long exposure, capturing the embodiment of being water.
