Meet the fabulous Bengal Kooga! Compared to most cats in the studios I have found that Bengals are braver and more curious about their surroundings. Kooga certainly made himself right at home and with the bribery of catnip, it was too hard to resist modelling. In this particular image, I wanted to focus on the big cat features; whiskers and paws! Cats have quick reactions and I wanted to capture that paw swipe perfectly. Although focused on catching the catnip sack just out of sight the lift in his paw is so gentle; a well-composed cat. One of my favourite styles of lighting works beautifully for side-lit portraits. A single strip box is used to highlight the one side of Kooga whilst wrapping around to fill in the shadows slightly. It also highlights the tip of his paw perfectly. Adding an additional spotlight behind Kooga brought out his incredible whiskers and body from the background. ISO 200, 70mm, f/22, 1/200 sec
