Description
Walruses have made an incredible recovery in Svalbard since they were protected by law. They now have little fear of people here and if you go about viewing them responsibly, you can enjoy them without any disturbance. This large male walrus was enjoying a rest on a piece of ice and it was only when I was positioned behind it, I saw this remarkable view. The walrus was laying on its side, asleep with its eyes closed, giving the appearance that I was above it somehow.
