Porthkerris Divers
Nikon Z8 in Nauticam Housing with AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm 1:2.8G EG. Retra strobes X2
In early summer, I was diving on the Porth Kerris house reef on the south coast of Cornwall. The visibility was poor so I had opted to use a macro lens. A short time into the dive some common octopuses were spotted and I immediately regretted my choice of lens. I then noticed an octopus a short distance away and I decided to try to photograph its eye whilst keeping my distance, so as not to cause it any distress. The octopus was curious about the camera, particularly its reflection in the glass of the lens, and gradually it crept closer and closer to me as I sat in a stationary position. This enabled me study the fascinating eye of the common octopus in detail and take the shots that I was after. 1/200 at f/10 ISO 250
