Water Life
Saint Helena island, south Atlantic ocean
Nikon Z8 in Nauticam housing with a 24-50mm lens and a dome port.
In the underwater caves of Saint Helena, squirrelfish move with a captivating rhythm, darting quickly in shoals, never still for long. Using a slow shutter speed combined with a zoom, I wanted to capture that dynamic motion, creating a blur that reflects their fluid dance when approached. I also aimed to blend the vibrant reds and deep blues of the scene, merging colours to create a harmonious, almost dreamlike effect. I love using slow shutter speed as a creative tool in underwater photography; it lets me capture not just movement, but emotion and energy, transforming moments that might otherwise seem ordinary or even boring into something alive and expressive.
