We were fortunate to see a large herd of zebra gathering on the banks of the Sand River in the Mara Triangle as we arrived on our last game drive. The water was relatively shallow and I managed to capture a few images as they began to cross, slowly and cautiously moving down the bank at first, then once in the water at a full trot. I thought this would make a great high key image due to the wonderful black and white stripes so developed the image with a high degree of dodging and burning to really highlight their form and motion through the water, but allowing for some shadow, soil and water splash to be visible to avoid the appearance of floating in mid air. The shutter speed was just fast enough to prevent blur. A lovely end to a fantastic safari.
