Description
Arising from my experiences of feeling alienated by the constraints of masculinity, this photograph depicts the struggle between the intimidating expectations of others and the desire for self-expression, to break free from what is expected of a man. The feather is a symbol of inner passion and femininity – qualities that deserve to be embraced without fear of judgement. Where in the past a feather has had many meanings, such as to imply cowardice during the first world war, here instead it represents a tension between desire and expectations.
