Description
On expedition amongst the sea ice north of Svalbard we came across the carcass of a sperm whale floating, interlocked in the surrounding ice floes. Though sad to see the demise of such a creature, this carcass signifies so much more in terms of the abundance it brings to many other species living in the harsh climate of the Arctic. This whale now provides a rich and vital food source for many polar bears that roam the area as well as countless fulmars, gulls and other seabirds.
