Water Life
Portland harbour, Dorset UK
Sony A7RIV with sony 28-60 lens in nauticam housing with WWL1B wet wide lens and two backscatter miniflash strobes, settings iso 50, f22 1 sec.
For this image I wanted to create a sense of being underwater surrounded by the gently swaying seaweed, the image was taken on a storm drain grille and I loved the juxtaposition of the storm bars in the background with the light shining through. In the foreground I snooted and strobed a bunch of light bulb sea squirt tunicates to freeze those. I took the image snorkeling and it took many attempts to get the right settings to give just the right amount of movement without blowing out the image. I find the fact that the underwater life thrives on this man made concrete structure a real positive story.
