Description

This photo was taken as the U23 Men raced down Gibson St, Glasgow at the Men's U23 road race at the UCI World Championship 2023. I wanted to try and capture a motion panning shot to show off the fast speed of the riders as they flew down the steep Gibson St towards Kelvingrove park. I shot this image with my Canon EOS R6 ii and EF70-200mm f/2.8L USM to make sure I was able to get around the track easily and speedily enough myself to capture different photos and locations as the cyclist were flying around. I set my shutter speed to 1/5 to try and create a lot of motion blur from the riders to create a completely new backdrop unrecognisable from the Glasgow streets to try and focus further on the riders speeds. I set my aperture to f25.0 to combat the amount of light that would be coming in when I captured the image. The motion created from the low shutter speed and vast speed of the cyclist flying down the hill create a brush like affect across the image that I feel adds to the speed of the rider down the steep glasgow street.
