Species photographed: Female Common blue. Polyommatus icarus. This 2024 has been very difficult for butterflies. As a result of too much rain so very little caterpillars have the chance to complete their life cycle and become adults. It was very sad to see, fields full of flowers but not butterflies around. Three weeks later than normal I was so happy to see 4 individuals, amongst them, this beautiful female common blue. She was roosting on top of the grass stem. I used some local vegetation and flowers to complete the composition. I don't usually get to close to them and this gives to the viewer a sense of scale. I like to make the most of what is around, to play with the different colours and other visual elements in the composition.
