A Regal Jumping Spider Phidippus regius on the underside of a Lotus Pod. Keeping jumping spiders as pets has increased lately thanks in part to the many macro photographs on social media. They don’t look like the usual spiders, they are fluffy as opposed to hairy, they have two big eyes at the front which people anthropomorphise as cute and they follow movement so look at the keeper making them more interactive than other invertebrates. They often lift the front legs up before jumping making them appear to wave to the keeper. As ambassadors for the arachnid world they are amazing, hopefully making people think twice before squashing that big hairy house spider that sprints across the floor in the autumn. Shot at 1/250 SS, f9, ISO 250 @ 90mm.
