Low Light Photography
Saints Bay, Guernsey - Channel Islands
Canon 5D Mark II, Canon EF 17-40 mm f/4.0 L USM Ultra-Wide Angle Zoom Lens, Manfrotto Tripod, Cable Release, LED Lenser V24
I created this Light Painting during my time living on the beautiful island of Guernsey in the Channel Islands. There is a fascinating little out-house situated down at Saints Bay (on the south coast of the island) which is used for storing small boats and crab pots used by local fishermen, and there is just enough room inside this little structure to stand upright. As it is such a unique location, I decided that it would make for an interesting location for creating a series of light paintings at, and this image is the result of one of my numerous experimental nights spent creating light paintings at this spot. To create this image, I started at the back of the image (where the light is yellow) and finished towards the front where I swooshed the light-saber device down the trap-door so it disappeared from view. The exposure length for this photograph was just 32 seconds long (pretty short compared to my usual outdoor light painting shoots) which allowed me just enough time to fire a flash gun manually on 1/2 power to illuminate my surroundings. As always, I was dressed entirely in black clothing and moving around for the duration of the exposure to avoid appearing in the resulting image. Camera settings: ISO 200 - f/4.5 - 32sec - 17mm
