Wedding
West Sussex

John & Joe celebrated their wedding at a barn venue in West Sussex. The surrounding fields were all given to local farmers I immediately had a thought of capturing an image like this one. I thought the that contrast of the individual crops would be really great and stand out if the image was black and white. It was completely black with absolutely no ambient light whatsoever. I had to get one of the Grooms to hold up his phone with the torch on so that my camera had something to lock on to. I placed the flash inside of the umbrella and I know as a technique it is now a little dated, but I just think for this image on this location it works perfectly. It is such a beautifully clear image. It was one of my first ever LGBTQ+ weddings and I feeling nervous in the days before. There was really no need for any apprehension, because we just created the most beautiful collection of images and this is definitely my favourite from the day. I think the thing I like the most about it is that it looks as though it was shot on a soundstage or in a studio against a black backdrop, but this is where we were in a field in West Sussex surround by total darkness. At one point I was concerned we would be attacked and eaten by a pack of hungry foxes, but I was assured by the venue staff that this was unlikely! Camera settings ISO 200 35mm F 5.6 1/60
