San Cristobal, Galápagos Islands, Ecuador

I took this image during a trip to the Galapagos Islands in April 2019. From the shore of San Cristobal, I watched this marine iguana emerging from the sea. As it slowly scanned the surrounding environment, it posed briefly on a rock. Using a slow shutter speed and steadying the camera with a tripod to capture the movement of the Pacific Ocean in the background, I had just enough time to take this portrait before the iguana moved away to warm up in the sun.
