Water Life
Rufiji River, Nyerere National Park, Tanzania
Nikon D850 & Nikkor 600mm F4. ISO 72, f4, 1/1000s handheld
A Nile Crocodile entering the Rufiji River, near the boundary of the Nyerere National Park in Tanzania. The river is both a valuable wildlife habitat, and a source of food for local villages, and this large adult was unfortunately displaying the hazards of attacking fish traps. Unable to articulate their tongues, crocodiles cannot remove the monofilament net fragments from their jaws, risking potentially fatal ingestion. This image was captured from a small boat, and I lay on the bow with the camera handheld to get the lens as close as possible to the water for an eye level perspective.
