On a London double decker bus
Contax iiia, with a 53mm Helios 103 and Superpan 200 film
While riding the 452 London bus home early one morning I noticed this woman looking out of the window at the city below. I could see her really looking at what was going on outside. Smiling at things she found amusing or beautiful. Her face would light up when she saw something. I moved to a seat a few back from her and shot this photograph. I purposefully shot it to capture her reflection so that the image would take on a dual context. Both a woman looking out at the world and back at herself. Because of her age, I also feel it touches on the subject of confronting ones own life, and passing beyond it. I shot it on my Contax iiia with a 53mm Helios, near wide open, probably at about 2.8 with a shutter speed of 1/50 or 1/100. She did not hear the shutter and, as far as I know, is entirely unaware that such an image of herself exists. She got off the bus a few minutes later.
