Self Portrait
Adams Plaza Bridge, Canary Wharf, London
Canon 1DX Mk2, Canon 24-70
On a Friday morning in November I visited Canary Wharf soon after most workers had made their commute to work. I'd seen pictures of a colourful tunnel in the area and wanted to capture something a bit different. It's a very long tunnel, so I knew it would require a lot of patience and persistence to capture the tunnel without any passers-by. My aim was to get a self portrait, positioning myself on the central white line to match the symmetrical feel inside the tunnel. My positioning was crucial to the shot working, as even a few centimetres to either side would throw off the balance of the image. I manually focused the lens and opted for a ten-second timer, which would give me enough time to return to the desired spot after hitting the shutter on the camera. It was also very important for me to remain still, as the shutter was at 2.5 seconds, due to wanting full details inside the tunnel at f22 aperture. Thankfully after a number of attempts, due to incorrect positioning and movement, and general public passing through the frame, I was finally able to capture the image I was aiming for. Shutter: 2.5 ISO: 100 Aperture: f22 Tripod used
