Self Portrait
Glasgow
Sony A7rii and Super Takumar 50mm 1.4
Maybe not strictly a self portrait as it contains a second person (my daughter) I believe due to the nature of the image and what I shall explain in this caption it perfectly fits as a self portrait of myself as a photographer and my life wandering around taking photos. I took this image as a bit of a joke using the reflection of a shop window to try and cheer my daughter up, who by this point was getting a bit board of being lugged around in her carrier. Given her age of 2.5 years old, being stuck in a pram or a carrier is no longer very fun for her and she would much rather be miss independent striding around the streets on her own two feet. But then the image started making me think quite deeply about how it perfectly encapsulates my life since I took up photography some 2.5 years ago. Despite it being such a short time ago, I cannot quite remember what made me buy my first camera and swap from taking pictures on a mobile device to using an SLR but in that 2.5 years my daughter has largely been by my side for the majority of the images I have taken. Either when she was younger and we were out as a family or these days when I look after her on my days off from work (the only chance I get to take photos) and she is not in nursery. I hope that as she grows older and does become more independent that she will want to still come out with me to take photos and maybe get into photography herself. What you might also wonder is why I choose to take the image as I usually do with the viewfinder rather than the digital screen which would have aloud you to see my face, but by doing it that way it would not have been a true reflection of myself. As for a man you loves taking photos of other people, I hate to have my own photo taken and prefer to hide behind my camera.
