Hoverflies are a interesting group of insects and a lesser know pollinator. They belong to the family Syrphidae, a family within the order Diptera. These brightly colored insects often mimic wasps, hornets or bees however, they are totally harmless. This portrait image shows the intricate little hairs and the complex compound eyes of the insect. A stack of approximately 150 images shot at an interval of 10 micro meters. Heliconsoft method C was used to create the stack.
